HMB Definition
What Is HMB Supplement?

HMB is a metabolite of the amino acid leucine, (B-hydroxy B-methylbutyrate). On June 2, 1995, the preliminary results of a university study were presented at the American College of Sports Medicine Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In this study, weight trainers who supplemented their diet with 3 grams of HMB gained 295% more strength and up to 300% more muscle mass in only three weeks than lifters who (every thing being equal; diet, exercise program, etc.) did not use HMB. Animal studies have shown HMB can stimulate muscle growth by 20 to 30%. Scientist aren’t quite sure how HMB works, but one theory is that it helps to minimize protein breakdown and damage to muscle cells subsequent to intense weight training. Scientist theorize that it minimizes protein breakdown thereby tipping the scales of protein balance in favor of muscle growth.
