Yohimbe Supplement Review

What is Yohimbe?

Yohimbe or rather Coryanthe Yohimbe is a herb that is manufactured from the inner bark of the Yohimbe tree which grows in West Africa. It has been used for centuries as a sexual aphrodisiac. In African wedding ceremonies Yohimbe is used as a tea to set the mood for a romantic evening for the bride and groom.

How does Yohimbe work and what are the effects?

Yohimbe expands the blood vessels in the extremeties of the body including the genitals (similar to the prescription drug Viagra), skin and even fat cells. Yohimbe acts as an alpha adrenoreceptor blocker which reduces the effects of hormones that restrict blood vessels. Yohimbe increases the production of norepinephrine which is essential for erections and steps up adrenaline to nerve endings which enhance sexual stimulation. Also, Yohimbe inhibits serotonin. When serotonin levels increase, blood pressure, exhaustion, depression and nervousness also increase which inhibit sexual performance.

Many studies have shown that Yohimbe can help impotence caused by poor circulation, ie. age, diabetes, emotional problems, etc. One study in particular that was published in the Journal of Urology stated that in their trial of men who had been impotent for two years or less found an 81% improvement in erections with the use of Yohimbe. Two thirds of the men who had reported having only a partial erection or erections of a short duration experienced fuller and longer lasting erections. Yohimbe is also responsible for psychic stimulation, heightening of sexual and emotional sensations, non-hallucinagenic perceptual changes and spinal shivers during orgasm. The effects of Yohimbe start around 30 minutes after ingestion and lasts around two hours; however, the full beneficial effect begins after 2 to 4 weeks of continuous daily use.
