Leg Extension Machine Exercise Instructions

Leg Extensions

Purpose of Exercise:This exercise isolates and develops the Quadriceps muscles (front of your upper legs).

How To Do Leg Extensions: Using a leg extension machine, sit in the seat and hook your feet under the padded bar. Position knee articulation at same axis as lever fulcrum. Grasp the handles on the machine or the edges of the seat to keep your hips from lifting up as you perform the exercise. Extend your legs up (straightening them), and squeeze at the top. As you bring the weight back down, do not allow your knees to go past 90 degrees of bend. This will minimize knee stress.

Important Points: Should be done slowly and deliberately, be sure to hold the contraction at the top and squeeze for a few seconds then lower the weight. It should not be done with heavy weights and if you have any knee problems, should not be done at all.
